The Dog’s Bollocks

Truth is like a dog’s bollocks – pretty obvious if you care to look.

“Which lying bastards are you going to trust?”

I suspect that the logic behind Howard and Costello’s mudslinging campaign goes like this: the voters know we’re lying bastards, so let’s try to show them that Kevin Rudd is a lying bastard too. Once the voters know that both parties are lying bastards, we can then campaign on “Which lying bastards are you going to trust?”

But as Rod Cameron on Lateline last night explained from his work with focus groups, it has back-fired badly, merely confirming that when it comes to lying bastardry, Howard wins gold.

Cameron argues that there are four main issues of concern to voters: environment, integrity, security and economy, and that Rudd is winning so far on all but the economy, which Howard is yet to challenge Rudd on. The latest economic downturn doesn’t bode well for Howard in that debate.

And then there’s Petro Georgiou condemning the proposed citizenship test, and now business calling for dramatic increase in skilled labour immigration. More tough times ahead for Howard.
