While it is increasingly likely that our homegrown ‘terror suspect’ Doctor Mohamed Haneef will be released without charge, John Howard ratchets up the national security agenda with increased terror warnings – or not, according to Alexander Downer – in what can only be seen as another attempt to push the 2pp polling figures another 1-2 percent towards Labor.
As I’ve said before, when you’re in a deep hole, the best thing to do is to stop digging – it just doesn’t work.
With the inevitable MSM comentariat speculation that the post-winter recess parliamentary session might be the Government’s last before the election, expect HowardCo to move into sinking-ship mode with leadership speculation and every man for himself in the desperate scramble for the lifeboats.
So remember gentlemen, ‘Don’t panic, and women and children first!’
According to Crikey tonight:
Labor has opened an 18 point two-party preferred lead over the government, a special telephone Morgan Poll conducted over the nights of July 4 and 5 has found.
Stop digging boys.
I said at the beginning of the year if HowardCo haven’t pulled back the polls by July they are gone, gone, gone.
As someone else said today, it looks like the voters are no longer just not listening, they’re getting pissed off and looking for the baseball bats.
On the other hand, Howard has clawed back Rudd’s lead to one percent. But I agree that things still don’t bode well for the Coalition.
