The Dog’s Bollocks

Truth is like a dog’s bollocks – pretty obvious if you care to look.

Performance OK for teachers, but not students!

Julie Bishop was on the news tonight talking about improving teaching outcomes. She roundly condemns State curricula for being outcomes based. Teachers measure these outcomes through the use of Key Performance Indicators. There seems to be some inconsistency here. Outcomes and PKIs are OK as a basis for remunerating teachers, but should not be used for measuring student learning? Hmmm…

Thanks to Ken at The Road to Surfdom for inspiration with his post describing Julie Bishop’s plans to force the states to introduce performance-related pay for school teachers as another ‘ill-conceived attempt to apply business school ideology to an unsuitable activity.’

Bishop is Howard’s decoy duck! He pushes her out onto the lake to grab a few headlines from the lazier journalists whenever he is copping a reaming on other fronts. She finishes every proclamation with “or else we will with-hold funding to the States”

Outcomes based education was introduced in WA by a Liberal government. Just thought I’d put it out there.
